Robert
Wernli is an international expert in the technology that weaves throughout
Second Sunrise; he has chaired 16 international conferences in related
technology in the U.S., Canada, Scotland, Norway, Taiwan, China and Japan.
He
holds mechanical engineering degrees from the University of California,
Santa Barbara and San Diego State University.
During his career at a Navy research center in San Diego, California,
he was given their highest technical achievement award—the Lauritsen-Bennett
Award for excellence in engineering. A former Navy qualified diver, he has
spent his career developing unmanned underwater robotic vehicles and work
systems. His expertise is evident through his award of several patents and
over 30 technical publications.
His
non-fiction work includes a comprehensive book on CD-ROM on underwater
vehicles, Operational Effectiveness of Unmanned Underwater Systems,
which he co-authored and edited. His most recent technical book is The
ROV Manual, which he also co-authored and edited.
He
lives in San Diego, California with his wife, Beverley, and does his writing
at their mountain cabin retreat in Idyllwild, California.
